MERITS

Resources: 0

Arabic, Native Language

Multilingual (•), English, French
Effect: Your character has a strong affinity for language acquisition. Each time you purchase this Merit, choose two languages. Your character can speak conversationally in those languages. With an Intelligence + Academics roll, he may also read enough of the language to understand context.

Area of Expertise, Pole Arms (•)
Prerequisite: Resolve •• and one Skill Specialty
Effect: Your character is uncommonly specialized in one area. Choose a Specialty to assign to this Merit. Forgo the +1 bonus afforded by a Specialty, in exchange for a +2.

Danger Sense (••)
Effect: You gain a +2 modifier on reflexive Wits + Composure rolls for your character to detect an impending ambush.
Your character’s reflexes are honed to the point where nothing’s shocking.

Trained Observer (•••)
Prerequisite: Wits ••• or Composure •••
Effect: Your character has spent years in the field, catching tiny details and digging for secrets. She might not have a better chance of finding things, but she has a better chance of finding important things. Any time you make a Perception roll (usually Wits + Composure), you benefit from the 9-again quality. With the three-dot version, you get 8-again.

Quick Draw, Pole Arms (•)
Prerequisites: Wits •••, a Specialty in the weapon or fighting style chosen
Effect: Choose a Specialty in Weaponry or Firearms when you purchase this Merit. Your character has trained in that weapon or style enough that pulling the weapon is his first reflex. Drawing or holstering that weapon is considered a re- flexive action, and can be done any time his Defense applies.

Defensive Combat, Weaponry (•)
Prerequisite: Brawl • or Weaponry •; choose one when this Merit is selected
Effect: Your character is trained in avoiding damage in combat. Use her Brawl or Weaponry to calculate Defense, rather than Athletics. Your character can learn both versions of this Merit, allowing you to use any of the three Skills to calculate Defense. However, you cannot use Weaponry to cal- culate Defense unless she actually has a weapon in her hand.

Fighting Finesse, Pole Arms (••)
Prerequisites: Dexterity •••, a Specialty in Weaponry or Brawl
Effect: Choose a Specialty in Weaponry or Brawl when you purchase this Merit. Your character’s extensive training in that particular weapon or style has allowed them to benefit more from their alacrity and agility than their strength. You may substitute your character’s Dexterity for her Strength when making rolls with that Specialty.
This Merit may be purchased multiple times to gain its benefit with multiple Specialties.

Staff Fighting (••••)
Prerequisites: Strength ••, Dexterity •••, Weaponry •• Style Tags: Pole Weapons
Effect: Your character uses a staff as her weapon of choice. These maneuvers are usually performed with a quarterstaff or bo staff, but anything of a suitable length and shape like a walking stick or a heavy curtain rod will work as well.
Short Grip (•): Your character moves her grip to the end of the staff, maximizing reach but losing speed. She gains a +1 to attack at the cost of her staff’s +1 bonus to Defense. You can change your character’s grip once per turn reflexively before taking an action.
Thwack Weapon (••): Your character slaps away an opponent’s weapon with the tip of her staff. She can Disarm with a roll of Strength + Weaponry contested by an opponent’s Strength + Athletics. If successful, the opponent drops his weapon at his feet. On an exceptional success, your character knocks the weapon a number of meters (or yards) away equal to her successes rolled.
Vaulting Defense (•••): Your character knows how to use her staff to rapidly reposition herself in a fight. Spend a point of Willpower; your character can add her dots in Melee to her Defense against one attack per turn.
Tornado Strike (••••): Your character spins her staff rapidly in a circle, hitting opponents all around her. She treats her staff attack as an autofire medium burst against up to three targets of her choice within range.

Success: Opponent Drops Weapon. Exceptional: Goes meters away}{Tornado Strike: Can attack up to 3 opponents in range with "Medium Burst" rules.}

Medium Burst: Can hit one to three targets standing close together. The attacker receives a two-die bonus to her dice pool. If striking at more than one target, subtract the total number of targets from the attacker’s pool, then make one attack roll per target.

Dr. Ewan Winters
WORSHIPPERS OF THE DRAGON: Rees's Cult 80fdae_2dcef3032fb041179701187d814a3167~mv2
Doctor Ewan Winters is an Oxford man, and was credited with the very first tracheotomy. His advancements with his partners in the field caused for them to sell their patented procedures to Oxford University for a sizable amount. This aloud Dr. Ewan Winters to follow his true passion, occult history and esotericism. He is a gentleman adventurer, and provides sizable funding to the London Rosicrucian society. His recent finding in the pyramids of Egypt reveal something bizarre, mechanical apparatuses from 2500 B.C.

EWAN WINTERS' THEORY OF THE SIXTH TOWER: Winters believes that the 6th Tower is an analogy for the Revelations writ in flesh. Each of the five fingers tells a story of fortune, health, success, morals and love. However, if one were to combine all of these, it is believed that they could find "The Sixth Tower," a architectural design that would transcend a person into the rightful place where God awaits. He learned this after finding a concealed treatise on the subject in one the pyramids he was studying, and returned, where he found the gear.

Basil Reynolds
WORSHIPPERS OF THE DRAGON: Rees's Cult 80fdae_dddc7e3cfa434e9aa293d5e0f627c7db~mv2
Basil Reynolds is a folklorist and researcher for Cambridge University. He was stricken ill due to exposure to chemicals under his Cambridge dorm as a young researcher, and was given a large settlement from the college. He now studies what he wants, which happens to be that which can help someone's mind and soul.

BASIL REYNOLD'S THEORY ON THE SIXTH TOWER: Basil has heard a tale of five demonic dragon like creatures that left their towers throughout Europe and England due to human tampering. However, a Cornish Princess called to them with her harp that the played in her tower, and trapped the creatures. It is now said that these demons are trapped in their "6th Tower", and that the ancient words the Cornish woman sang are written somewhere. Find the words and you can find the tower. Find the tower and you can use the dragon demons to your advantage.

Rona Blum
WORSHIPPERS OF THE DRAGON: Rees's Cult 80fdae_f995f0bec6ed4a239897cd4c226fee2d~mv2
Rona Blum is a Jewish Immigrant who married the belated Henry Blum, steamboat businessman. She was put through school by her husband before his untimely death. Rona believes that the Practical Kabbalah spoke of unlocking the secrets to good health, and that the 6th Tower is a metaphor for transcending. Her proof lies in ancient Jewish seers called the Nicorim , who professed that there would be a rapture for those who could unlock the secrets of the Practical Kabbalah. Recent evidence that Practical Kabbalah is being practiced in basements and alleys near churches and mosques only supports her theory that others are looking for the Sixth Tower.

Mervin Smith
WORSHIPPERS OF THE DRAGON: Rees's Cult 80fdae_c2c98e6b13c7460a80e37a36d2d5e60d~mv2
Mervin is a student of cryptozoology and a paleontologist. He has found bones like a dinosaurs in what are dried up water systems, along with dozens of aquatic like humanoids. Mervin believes that there was a race of humans, perhaps even Atlanteans, that retreated into the sea along with their deity like dinosaur pantheons. There is reason to believe these Jurassic beasts were sentient, as shrine like structures were built around their corpses. Mervin retrieved a large bone the size of a child, but when he returned the corpse was gone. Since then, someone has broken into his study and taken it.

Ferguson Adamson
WORSHIPPERS OF THE DRAGON: Rees's Cult 80fdae_10a693cae84f475dad558969daa283c8~mv2
Great grandson of Rosicrucian, Henry Adamson (1638). Ferguson has continued the movement, opening a publishing company to build his empire. He uses his earnings to trade great old tomes. He believes in a person who will find the 6th Tower. A hero that long ago in Welsh history, helped save a boy from the grips of a goblin-woman. This hero will locate the 6th tower and use it to awaken great ancient warriors stored inside and awaken them to fight a great war that will save the world.
